Obituary of Janice Elizabeth Carpenter Caldwell

Janice Elizabeth Carpenter Caldwell, age 73, passed away after a short battle with cancer, on Monday, March 29, 2021 at her home in Raymore, Missouri.

She was born April 12, 1947, in DeKalb, Texas, the daughter of Hollis L. and Sadie V. (Van Hoose) Carpenter.

She graduated from Texas High School, class of 1965. Following graduation, Jan married Lonnie R. Caldwell, of Memphis, Tennessee and the couple attended a computer school in Kansas City, Missouri and then settled in Memphis, Tennessee. Jan excelled in everything she did. After graduating from Park University with a double major, she held very high management positions with Blue Cross/Shield of Kansas City and as an executive level I.T. Manager with the U.S. Postal Service, were she managed large staffs of I.T. individuals in five states. Jan and Lon would have celebrated their 55th anniversary on June 4, 2021.

Jan was a life-long member of the Community of Christ Church, headquartered in Independence, Missouri (cofchrist.org) where she served as a High Priest and as a Mission Center President.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother Jimmy L. Carpenter. She is survived by her mother (who subsequently passed away on May 1, 2021); her husband; two brothers Mike Oliver and Mark Oliver of Texas; two sisters Sue Oliver Brock of Madison, Alabama and Penny Svir of Battle Ground, Oregon; two children Kerri V. Caldwell Hammond of Independence, Missouri and L. Scott Caldwell of Raymore, Missouri; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to camp, sew, quilt, and paint Lonnie’s wood carvings. She also loved to help others in time of need. Her baby blue eyes were donated so that others might regain the gift of sight.

It is her wish that her ashes be buried at the foot of her father’s grave at New Hope Cemetery near Hodgson, Bowie County, Texas. A service of inurnment will take place on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

She is already greatly missed by family and friends.
