Obituary of Richard Nelson Farrand

Richard Nelson Farrand, 85, longtime resident of the Lake of the Ozarks area, died peacefully on Friday, August 6, 2021.  He is survived by Carol Farrand, his wife of 63 years.  Richard is also survived by his children Lisa (William) Kemp and Jenell (Farrand) Savage; 5 grandchildren Shaun (Jessica) Kemp, Nicholas Kemp, Alec Kemp, Brianna Savage and Alena Savage.  Also surviving is a sister, Patricia (Tom) Hodge of St. Charles, Illinois.  Richard has various nieces and nephews, including those from his extended family. 

The family will welcome friends for visitation on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11:00 am at Camdenton United Methodist Church in Camdenton, Missouri. A Celebration of Life Service is planned following the visitation at 12:00 pm at the church.  A luncheon will be provided following.

Richard was born on December 22, 1935 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.  His father, Nelson Farrand was a police sergeant in Chicago and his mother Leta was a retail sales associate for Marshall Field.  When he was of age, he joined the military in the Air Force, learning his trade of aviation engineering and mechanics.  After graduating from Lewis Lockport College, he went to work for Northwest Orient Airlines. 

Richard and Carol purchased a resort in 1969 called Rod and Reel Resort and lived there until 1978. As a resort owner, he was a member of the Camdenton Chamber of Commerce.  He was also member of the Elks Lodge in Laurie and the Camdenton United Methodist Church. 

He enjoyed playing golf at the Lake Valley Country Club, where he was a member.  Richard and Carol loved to travel, but his greatest joy was spending time with grandchildren and friends and boating on the Lake.     

Richard will be missed by his friends, family and neighbors.

Memorial donations are suggested to Dogwood Animal Shelter in Osage Beach, Missouri or to Ozarks Kat and K9 Shelter in Laurie, Missouri.
