Obituary of Dennis Grant Schoonover Sr.
Dennis Grant “Schoonie” Schoonover Sr., at the age of 82, transitioned from this life to the next on Sunday, February 6, 2022. Dennis was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on January 23, 1940 to the late Merle and Mattie Schoonover.
Dennis has been a resident of Camdenton, Missouri since 1988. He is survived by his wife Vicki Kay Schoonover of Camdenton. Dennis was the father of four children: Dennis Schoonover Jr. and Denise Christensen of Des Moines, Iowa, Debby Carlson of Bondurant, Iowa, and Rene Harrison of Riverside, Iowa. He was stepfather to Michael Distler of California, Missouri, Chris Distler of Strafford, Missouri. He was preceded in death by one brother Roger Schoonover, survived by Becky Schoonover in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dennis was a grandfather and great-grandfather. He was grandfather to Amy Boyse in Kalona, Iowa and Jessie Whittington in St. Louis, Missouri. His great-grandchildren are Carson Boyse and Brenton Boyse in Kalona, Iowa; Mya and Nathan Whittington of St. Louis, Missouri; Lilly Holsman, Eliza and Max Distler of California, Missouri; and Mia, Micah, Noah, and Maverick Distler of Strafford, Missouri.
Dennis was a veteran of the United States Navy and was stationed at Great Lakes Naval base.
Dennis owned/operated local bar/restaurants in Camdenton, Missouri: Schoonie’s on the Water, Schoonie’s, and Standing Rock Café. Between time owning these establishments, he was self-employed in general labor. Throughout his life, he loved RV travel and riding motorcycles.
No services will be held at this time.
