Obituary of Steven Lee DeForest

Steven Lee DeForest peacefully took his last breath on earth and first breath in Heaven on March 15, 2022 surrounded by family after a 7 1/2 year battle with cancer, all while maintaining his witty sense of humor.

Steve was born February 28, 1953 in Tyler, Texas. He graduated in 1971 from Seaman High School in Topeka, Kansas. He spent 9 years in the Air Force as a Missle Electronic Equipment Technician. He retired from the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) in Kansas city as a Quality Assurance Specialist Engineer forming many friendships with his coworkers.

Those that preceded Steve to the Pearly Gates were his beloved sister Cheryl Ann Gibbon, father Forrest James DeForest, Loving adoptive stepfather James McDowell, paternal grandparents Francis Lee and Bertha Goldie (Dyste) DeForest, maternal grandparents Henry Forster and Tabitha Gracie (Layton) Hendrix, great nephew Kristopher James DeForest, Jr.

He is greatly missed and survived by his mother Rosie "Ardean" McDowell, sister Kathy Cowen and husband Ed, brother Jim DeForest & wife Kathy, sons Lonnie, Carey, Tyler and Caleb DeForest, wife Victoria DeForest, grandchildren Hannah, Gavin & Jesse DeForest along with many nieces, nephews & cousins. His dog Molly and cat Izzy.

Steve's hobbies were volleyball (playing, coaching and officiating) love of learning and love of music.  He was also a member of the Lake of the Ozarks Blues Society.  He was a long time member of Church of the Resurrection being involved in working the blood drives and volunteering when he could.  His favorite hobby was being involved in family activities. Most of all, he loved his family. He will be dearly missed and will live forever in our hearts.

Until we meet again...

God saw you getting tired

And a cure was not to be

So he put his arms around you

And whispered "Come to me"
