Obituary of Catherine Scher

Please share a memory of Catherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Catherine (Cathy) “Cate” Mary Scher, 76, of Osage Beach, Missouri passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 24, 2023. She was born on September 28, 1946 to Marvin and Rosemary Hagele in Chicago, Illinois.  She had a feisty spirit from day one, she cherished her older brothers and often shared fun childhood memories of them and her beloved parents. She always credited her brothers for being her protectors and helping her fund trips to Riverside Amusement Park.

When Cathy was 18 she had her first child, Dean, followed by her daughter, Amy and her youngest son, Steven.  She was a loving mother who always put her kids first.  She loved her kids more than anything in the world and worked tirelessly to provide for them.

Cathy moved to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1986 where she continued to raise her family while working in hospitality until 2007. Her experience at the Lodge of Four Seasons connected her to a new family of admired coworkers and friends, especially her best friend, Connie.  Cathy’s work in hospitality led to congressional recognition during her time at the Lodge.

Cathy was known for her long conversations filled with unconditional love, support, guidance and encouragement which continued in her role as a grandmother. She was actively involved in the lives of her grandchildren, never missing a special occasion or opportunity to show her support from afar.

Cathy had a passion for volunteering at Dogwood Animal Shelter and eventually would meet two of the greatest joys in her life, Casey and Josie, her two loyal rescue puppies. In her spare time, she enjoyed interior decorating, home-improvement projects, shopping at thrift stores, and spending time cuddling her dogs while keeping up with the latest true crime TV shows.

She was preceded in passing by her parents, Marvin and Rosemary Hagele; her niece, Anne Hagele; and her beloved dog, Casey. She is survived by her children, Dean and Marika Karas (Lansing, KS); Amy and Jason Sax (Osage Beach, MO); Steve and Taylor Kyriazis (Clearwater, FL); her grandchildren, Steven Karas (Lansing, KS); Dominique and Jarrod Miller (Leavenworth, KS); Tyler Yea (Leavenworth, KS); Zachary and Haley Kyriazis (Springfield, MO); Holland Ross and Trayton Doubenmier (New Bloomfield, MO); Katlyn Kyriazis and Mariana Sanchez (Liberty, MO); her great grandson, Everett Miller (Leavenworth, KS); her brothers, Dennis (Red) Hagele (Fort Collins, CO) and Marvin (Bob) and Eileen Hagele (Lake Ozark, MO); nieces and nephews, Caroline Hagele, Ted and June Hagele and children, Mike and Leslie Hagele and children, Tara Hagele and Gabrielle Hagele.

We will treasure the memories she created for our family, her neighbors and friends whom she cherished.
