Obituary of Roxana Michele Duncan

Roxana Michele (Blair) Duncan of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, daughter of Charles C. and Dorothy I. (Forgy) Blair, was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on July 19, 1944, and passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri on March 9, 2023, at the age of 78 years.

At age 1, Roxie moved with her family to Camdenton, Missouri from Grand Island, Nebraska. She attended Camdenton schools, graduating from Camdenton High School in 1962. Two years later, she married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Duncan, on June 18, 1964. In 2012, she moved to Lees Summit, Missouri to be close to her daughters and grandchildren. But she always called Camdenton home.

Roxie had a short-lived and mildly disastrous career as a waitress. After high school, Roxie attended University of Missouri-Columbia and worked various jobs. Eventually, she began working as a teller at First National Bank in Camdenton. She advanced her career all the way to Vice President/Auditor before choosing early retirement after more than 25 years with the bank. Since 2002, her favorite job was being a grandma.

Roxie was a loving and nurturing mother, who loved to embarrass her daughters by singing and dancing all the time. She was a devoted daughter, sister, and friend, and acted as “bonus mom” to many of her nieces and nephews. Roxie’s biggest passions were musicals, showtunes, and songs by the great crooners and 1940’s big bands. She enjoyed traveling to Colorado, the California coast, The Cayman Islands, St. Marten, and The British Isles and Ireland. She also had several ancestry-seeking adventures in the Midwest and Northeast
United States. She enjoyed genealogy research, organizing class reunions, needlepoint and crafts, and was a talented gardener. She especially loved peonies, irises, daffodils, and dogwood trees. She had an unbelievably large “collection” of little free notepads. Without a doubt, the most special times for Roxie were cookouts and cards nights with friends, frequent family gatherings, caring for her dogs, and activities with her children and grandchildren.

Roxie’s most enduring impact is as a friend, sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother. She had a tender heart, was always available to listen, and had an ornery sense of humor (like her mother before her). She was generous and supportive. She made everyone feel important, included, and loved.

Roxie was predeceased by her father, Charles C. Blair, her mother, Dorothy I. (Forgy) Blair, and her brother-in-law Richard Duncan.

She is survived by her two daughters, Stacey (Bob) Sharpe of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Kathryn (Eric Bowman) Mosier of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. She will be dearly missed by all her grandchildren: Kellen, Lauren, and Rebecca Sharpe, Evan Mosier, and Owen and Oliver Bowman. She is survived by her 5 siblings: Dr. Carol (Blake) Danuser, Bruce (Mary) Blair, Ellen (Joe) Butts, Amy (Curt) Jones, and Sam (Sunshine) Blair, sisters-in-law Karen Duncan and Barb Duncan, former husband Tom (Jean) Duncan, and 12 nieces and
nephews, whom she cherished.

Services will be held Saturday, March 18 at Camdenton United Methodist Church, 340 W U.S. Hwy 54, Camdenton, Missouri. The family offers visitation from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm. The memorial service will begin at 12:00 pm, officiated by Reverend Steve Jones. All friends and family are invited to gather for a luncheon immediately following the service.

The family would like to thank St. Luke’s Hospice House for their tender care of Roxie during the last days of her life on Earth.
