Obituary of GySgt Jon D. Elshaug

Gunnery Sergeant Jon Dale Elshaug, age 72, of Osage Beach, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 6, 2023 in Osage Beach, Missouri. He was born July 20, 1950, in Grafton, North Dakota, the son of Willard and Lorraine (Scott) Elshaug.

GySgt Elshaug was a Viet Nam veteran, and proud to have served his country as a United States Marine. He spent his career primarily in the Disbursing field, responsible for managing payroll records for Marines, and also served one tour as an award-winning recruiter. He was proud of his career and his beloved Marine Corps, and retired in 1988 after 20 years of service.

After his retirement, Jon was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a troop leader for many years, as well as serving on the distract staff. He also enjoyed spending time sailing and volunteering his time in the sailing community - especially the two years spent serving as the Commodore of the Santa Margarita Yacht Club in Oceanside, CA. Other interests included traveling,
collecting, and fishing.

His most treasured time, however, was with his family - especially his grandchildren. Jon was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His family and friends will cherish his memory in their hearts.

Jon is survived by his children Kelley Hatfield of Missouri, David Elshaug (Krissi) of Arizona, Joseph Elshaug (Poppy) of Oregon, Marcus Elshaug of Pennsylvania, and Michael Gumpert of Nevada; his grandchildren Kelsey, Annabelle, Ezrie, Azareah, Aaron, Brennen, Alyssa, Nora, Lily, Caleb, Mackenzie, and one on the way; brothers David Kingsbury (Cathy) of Minnesota and Scott Kingsbury (Deborah) of Minnesota; sisters Alisa Flaig (Mark) of North Dakota and Rebecca Jacobson (Dean) of California.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents Willard and Lorraine Elshaug; his daughter Alyssa Elshaug; and
his brother Rand Kingsbury.
