Obituary of Genieva Mae Harris
Genieva Mae Harris, daughter of the late Cassie Leon Warren and Gladys Warren was born on March 29, 1926 in Conway, MO. She departed this life on April 5, 2023 at 97 years old. Genieva was united in marriage to James (Junior) Harris in Buffalo, MO on September 6, 1947. James preceded her in death in 2013 after 66 years of marriage. She is lovingly remembered by her two sons James W. Harris of Acapulco, Mexico and Dr. William K. Harris and his wife Laura A. Harris of Osage Beach, MO; her two grandsons Major Kevin R. Harris USMC of Miami, FL and Kyle J. Harris of New York, NY; and two great-grandchildren. Genieva had eight siblings, and her two surviving siblings are Jack Warren of Nixa, MO and Elaine Sherr of San Luis Obispo, CA.
Genieva and her husband partnered with his sister and brother-in-law to open Mashburn Furniture and Appliance in downtown Camdenton, MO in 1950. Twenty years later, they took full ownership. In 1974, a fire destroyed the building, and they reopened a year later with a new vision for the business centered on custom interior design and high-end furniture known as Harris Interiors. Their son James initiated this evolution of the family business, which for her was always a deep sense of pride.
Alongside Genieva's considerable contributions to the business, her community activities included President of the PTA and Superintendent of Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Camdenton for several years. Her diverse international travels also allowed her to explore the world with her husband. Later, Genieva was an avid crocheter and gifted many Afghan blankets to loved ones. Along with being a keen reader and jigsaw puzzle solver, she took care of numerous cats, enjoyed birdwatching, and was particularly fond of hummingbirds throughout her life. A steadfast source of advice, support, and care, Genieva will be fondly remembered as a devoted and selfless person by all whose lives she touched.
Family and friends will gather together on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home in Camdenton, Missouri from 11:00am to 1:00pm and a Graveside Service will be held following the visitation at Hopewell Cemetery in Urbana, Missouri at 3:00pm.
