Obituary of Jo Anne Schafer

Please share a memory of Jo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jo Anne Schafer, age 89, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Earnest and Gladys Slechta. She was born December 8, 1933 in Dunlap, Iowa. She grew up in Omaha, NE and was united in holy matrimony to Harold Louis Schafer on October 30, 1954. Jo worked at the Great American Insurance Company for over twenty-five years and spent most of her time volunteering for nonprofit organizations in her community.

She and Harold were founding members of the church of St. Augustine of Canterbury Church in Elkhorn, NE until she moved to Osage Beach, MO in 2006 where she became a member of St. George Episcopal Church. Jo loved volunteering at her local community hospital, Lake Regional where she served for almost 17 years. In addition to volunteering at her churches and the hospital, she also volunteered at the Hope House.

Jo was preceded in death by her late husband of 42 years, Harold Louis Schafer.

She is survived by her two sons, Scott Louis, and Peter Andrew, two daughters-in-law, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Jo was an amazing, God-fearing servant woman who will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. May she rest in peace!
