Obituary of Eugene Douglas Stockwell
Eugene “Gene” Douglas Stockwell, age 82 of Stoutland, Missouri, passed away Monday, June 12, 2023, at his home in Stoutland after a two- year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Eugene was born January 26, 1941, in Dowagiac, Michigan to Zell and Alice (Gallimore) Stockwell.
He was the baby of 16 children, and he spent the first 42 years of his life living in Michigan and then he moved to Missouri where he has spent the last 40 years.
He worked as a liaison engineer for 34 years for Sunstrand making air conditioning parts and setting up machine presses, and after his retirement he worked as a custodian for Windermere and Camdenton High School.
He was an avid football fan and was especially fond of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions. During his time in Michigan, he was a brother of The Free Masons Grand Peninsular Lodge No. 10. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting mushrooms, mowing lawns, spending time with his cats which he loved dearly and enjoyed watching all the wildlife while living on the farm the last several years.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He had a bit of an ornery side and always kept the people who knew and loved him on their toes to say the least.
Eugene is survived by his wife Barb of the home, his daughters, Marcia and husband Larry of Battle Creek, Michigan, Beverly of Lathrop, Missouri, Teressa and husband Norman of Lebanon, Missouri, one son Doug and wife Delania of Dowagiac, Michigan; his grandchildren, Toni, Joe, Harli, Jeff, Heather, Jarred, Jennifer, Shauna, Emily and several great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Shirley of Michigan, Joyce of California.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy, one son, Robert, one great grandson, Bryton, his parents, 13 brothers and sisters, Kathryn, Maurice, Lewis, Kenneth, Doris, Marjorie, Beatrice, Merle, Robert, Mary Jane, Dorwin, Arlin, and Donald, one brother- in-law, Frank, and two very special friends that he lovingly called Ma and Pa.
He will be deeply missed and will live on in our hearts and memories.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home in Camdenton, Missouri. The family will welcome friends for visitation from 10:00 am-11:00 am, prior to services at the funeral home.
