Obituary of Benny Bentley Ramer

Please share a memory of Benny to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Benny Bentley Ramer was born on January 22, 1931, in Asheville, North Carolina. He was the second of four children born to Norvan Benoni Ramer and Virginia Roxie Ramer. At the age of five, they moved to San Diego, California. He attended Hoover High School before joining the United States Navy. He served three tours in the Korean War aboard the USS Renville. He was awarded the China Service Metal, National Defense Metal, United Nations Service Metal, and the Korean Service Metal (3 Stars).

Benny worked for the San Diego Union Tribune before opening his own business, Ben Gun and Antique’s. After closing the shop, Benny spent many years buying and selling guns, antiques, and of course rocks at the swap meets. Some of his hobbies included hunting and fishing. He dedicated his life to Jesus Christ and has brought countless individuals to the Lord.

Benny and Carole (Mays) had three sons, Benny B, Zane J, and Kevin J. They were raised in Santee, California. Years later Benny raised two of his grandchildren, James and Katrina as his own.

In 2008, Benny met his true love, Connie Clerkin. They spent many years traveling from Arizona, California, and Missouri, living life to its fullest. Stopping at every swap meet and sale along the way. It didn’t really matter what they were doing as long as they were together.

Benny is preceded in death by his father and mother (Norvan and Virginia Ramer), two brothers (Lanier Ramer and Norvan “Eugene” Ramer), and Carole Mays. He is survived by his wife Connie Clerkin, brother Jim Ramer. Three children, Benny Ramer (Carla), Zane Ramer, Kevin Ramer. Three Stepchildren Todd Mahurin, Greg Mahurin, Patricia Clerkin, 21 Grandchildren, 19 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great-Grandchild.
