Obituary of Robert Charles Ryken
Robert Charles Ryken, age 85, of Camdenton, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023, following a brief stay at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri.
Bob was born on February 25, 1938, in Ackley, Iowa to Charley J. Ryken and Ruth (Weber) Ryken. On February 26, 1961, he was united in marriage to Patricia A. (Bakka) Ryken and would go on to enjoy 62 wonderful years of marriage together.
Bob received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1961 from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. In 1965 he worked as an Iowa Department of Transportation Right of Way Freeway Engineer where he was assigned the I-74/Kimberly Road projects and brought the family to Bettendorf, Iowa where they spent 50 years in the Quad Cities. In 1968 Bob joined Missman Stanley and Associates in Rock Island, Illinois as a Senior Design Engineer. He eventually became president of the firm from 1987 until his retirement in January of 2000.
Bob was a leader and mentor to many, he was gifted with a lively spirit, a vibrant sense of humor and deep sense of love for his family and friends. He also dedicated his time to multiple organizations, such as the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, the Iowa Engineering Society, and the Rotary Club.
Bob had many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed watching sports, golfing, and spending time with his family, especially their annual trips from Iowa to the Lake of the Ozarks. After vacationing for a week every July for more than 40 years, Bob and Pat relocated to Camdenton in 2014 where he loved looking out on the water from his deck. In subsequent years, both children followed them to live at the lake.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pat; two daughters, Sherry Ryken of Camdenton, Missouri and Janet (Dan) Westhoffof Camdenton, Missouri; two granddaughters, Kaylin (Brian) Price of Chicago, Illinois and Madison (Wyatt) Eldridge of Gordonville, Missouri; and one great-grandson, William Robert Price, whom he adored.
Celebration of Life events are pending at the Lake of the Ozarks and in the Quad Cities in October. In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family has set up several donation options in his honor.
