Obituary of Robert L. Williams

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert L “Bob” Williams, 87, of Linn Creek, Missouri passed away on September 2, 2023 in his home in Linn Creek, Missouri.

There will be no public funeral service at this time but a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Hedges-Scott Funeral Home will be handling the private funeral arrangements.

Robert L Williams was born in Smithville, Mississippi to Woodrow L and Ruby Green Williams, the second of nine children, on January 29, 1936. He went to Smithville High and graduated in 1954. He was a member of the National Guard for seventeen years while employed by the Frisco Railroad, eventually working his way up to the position of diesel shop foreman. While still working for the railroad, Robert moved his family to Springfield, Missouri. In 1968 he purchased a propane gas company from Lloyd Scott in Camdenton, Missouri, naming it S & W Gas and moved his family there soon after. Robert proudly owned and operated S & W Gas for 53 years before selling the business and retiring at the end of 2021. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ with a strong, unwavering belief in God and His word. Robert was an incredibly hard worker but truly enjoyed his family, fellowship with friends, restoring old tractors, cattle farming and in his later years, his two dogs which he nicknamed “The Boys.” Robert will be so dearly missed by his family and friends but they are comforted by the Lord’s salvation and renewal in a home in heaven for those who believe and are baptized, which Robert was many years ago.

Robert L Williams is survived by his wife, Shelby Jean of the home, son Larry (Penny) Williams, daughters Sharon (Ron) Piskorski and Teresa (Charlie) Burns and son Tim, all residing in Linn Creek, Missouri, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to all of those who knew and loved Bob and for all of the prayers, cards and letters he received during his most recent illness. A special heartfelt thank you to the wonderful caregivers of Gentiva Hospice and to Pat S. for providing such helping care for Bob in his final days. Bob recently stated that he had a good life and was truly blessed by the Lord to have so many wonderful friends and to have known so many good people over the years. Words fail to describe such a caring and giving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be dearly and truly missed.
