Obituary of Mary Lynn Kretchmer
Mary Lynn Kretchmer was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 8, 2023 at home in Osage Beach, Missouri.
Mary was born on December 14, 1942 in Washington, IA. In 8th grade, she moved to Williamsburg IA with her family. In school, she enjoyed playing in the band and working summers at the local drive-in. She also enjoyed playing the accordion. She was married to her high school sweetheart in 1964 and had 3 children, Shelley, Brent and Brian. Mary suffered the loss of her husband, Larry Mayberry, in 1977 after his battle with cancer. In 1980, she married Roger Kretchmer and their daughter, Megan, was born in 1982. Mary and Roger have been married for 43 years.
Mary and Roger purchased their lake home in 1982 and enjoyed many summer days and holidays hosting family and friends at the lake. In 1989, they decided to make it their permanent residence. Mary loved planting and caring for her beautiful flowers, especially during the spring and summer months when she was most often found outside tending to them. She was also an avid reader, loved mystery novels, and enjoyed relaxing with a good book on the dock and going on boat rides with the family. She always kept everyone well fed and was known for many of her delicious dishes and desserts, such as lasagna, party potatoes and her signature rootbeer floats for the grandkids.
It is with great sadness that we acknowledge that no one was prepared to bid farewell, and her absence will be profoundly felt.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William and Leona Gasper Glandon, sisters Nancy Riess (James) and Patricia, nephew Jim Riess and husband Larry Mayberry.
She is survived by husband Roger Kretchmer, children Shelley Donnelly (Mark Rupp), Brent Mayberry (Marilyn), Brian Mayberry and Megan Mungovan (Jim).
