Obituary of Gwendolyn Evelyn Langland
Gwendolyn Evelyn Langland, 89, of Lake Ozark, Missouri passed away Monday, October 23, 2023, at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, Missouri.
She was born December 7, 1933, in, Densmore, Kansas. She was the daughter of Hazel Violet Loughry and Ernest Eugene Sides.
Gwen graduated from Boulder High School in Boulder, Colorado and from college in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She worked at the Lunar and Planetary Institute at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. This is the institute that studied the moon rocks collected during the first lunar landings. Scientists from all over the world studied the moon rocks there. Gwen took shorthand at an incredibly fast speed and was able to type scientific briefs in many different languages. She worked there until she retired. Later she did contract typing for attorneys and was proficient at medical records transcription.
She spent her early 30's doing "Tearoom Modeling" with her daughter Renee. She was known for her
great beauty all of her life.
She enjoyed boat trips on a lake in the San Antonio Hill Country with her second husband, Dr. Olaf Langland. The two of them enjoyed road trips together between their homes in California and Texas.
Her grandchildren brought her a lot of joy and she always enjoyed visiting them.
She loved beauty in all things including landscape, clothing, art, and loved dogs, whatever they looked like.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The words most often used to describe her were beautiful, kind, and sweet though she did have a feisty side, surely.
Gwen is survived by her son Douglas Scott Stokes; two daughters, Deborah G. Fato and Renee Schatz; grandchildren Daniel Schatz, Brian Schatz, Dee Maher, Ashley Renee Toelke, Jeffrey Hamman, and Cherise Stokes; and multiple great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kimra Lynn Stokes, and one son, Richard Raymond
Stokes.
Friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Hedges Scott-
Millard Funeral Home in Osage Beach, Missouri, where a funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m.
A private family entombment will follow in the Lake Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum at a later date.
