Today I am praying for a precious lady, Shirley Hayden Edwards, Jesus promised to us in John 14:3, "When everything is just right, I will come and get you and we will be together forever."
I realized that I missed a true blessing in not knowing your husband, Fred. He was one year older than me. We both served our country in the military.
I am blessed with memories of my first year of teaching. That first year of teaching 37 exemplary students was at Altoona, Kansas in 1956-57, and you, Shirley, were one of those enjoyable students.
It's easy for me to be able to say good things about Shirley. She took care of our sons, Lewis and Mike, and stayed overnight a few times in our home with my wife, Patricia and me.
Four events of that school year stand out in my memories. We presented a Christmas pageant and Leona was Mary. We went through the town singing Christmas carols (and the song Dixie!). We put together a school play, Somewhere over the Rainbow. On our eighth grade "end of the school year" trip, we traveled in four states (Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma) and went through a cave at Noel, Missouri.
Shirley and Fred spent many years living on the shores of The Lake of the Ozarks. What Fred can now see, one can only imagine.
In these days, we are thinking about our "forever home". Jesus said in John 11:25, "Anyone who believes in me will live even after dying.
Thinking of you during these times
