Obituary of Ronald K. Phillips

Ronald K. Phillips–Osage Beach, MO –Hard working, fun loving with an eternal zest for life. Ron Phillips passed away peacefully at his home on June 4, 2017. At Ron’s side was his lovely bride of nearly 50 years, Ginger (Virginia) Phillips.  

Growing up a lanky redhead in Highland Park, Michigan, Ron was grounded by midwestern values instilled by his parents, Willis and Mae Phillips (both deceased). He greatly loved and admired his parents and two older brothers Gene and Carl (deceased). All three brothers were brilliant, hard working and successful, with tremendous support for each other. 

Ron became a father at a young age and cherished his children, Greg, Mike, Jeff and Cindy. In 1968 he married Ginger Burge, a beautiful Pan Am flight attendant. They traveled to many wonderful destinations around the world. 

 The family settled in St. Louis where Ron created a successful business. The family spent summers at the Lake of the Ozarks. ‘Captain Ron’ loved boating and bought one large enough to sleep the entire family. His kids and grandkids had many wonderful times at the lake. He retired at age 63, sold the St. Louis home and the boat, and built a house on the lakeshore. He and Ginger also became snowbirds, wintering in Naples, Florida. They developed a love of golf and greatly enjoyed their large circle of friends. Ron’s one regret may have been the witness he never had during his one and only hole-in-one. 

Ron, Captain Ron, Papa, was dearly loved, admired and respected by family and friends. Quick-witted with a wicked sense of humor, he was a great storyteller. He was kind, thoughtful and had a magical way of making people feel valued and important. Ron was a man who measured his success by the great love he had and joyful times he shared with family and friends.  

Ron successfully defeated lung cancer shortly after retirement. When the disease returned, he and Ginger battled it like warriors, but the treatments took a great toll on his 81 year old body. Their enormous strength and courage could not conquer it this time around. In his final days, his perspective provided comfort to many. He was ready to face whatever God had planned because as he saw it; he got 15 bonus years with those dearest to him: Ginger, Greg (Annette), Mike, Jeff (Laurie), Cindy (Mark Hoehne), nine grandkids, one great grandchild, brothers Gene (Jean, deceased) and Carl (deceased) (Vera), many nieces and nephews and dozens of close friends.
