Obituary of Barbara Ann Smothers

Barbara Ann Smothers, age 78, of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Barbara was born December 19, 1940 in Sandusky, Ohio, the daughter of Everett and Sybil (Eidson) Golston.

Barbara worked for many years as an accountant for the United States Agricultural Department. She had a great love of music. From singing, playing of instruments to listening to gospel recordings.  A highlight in her life was taking care of her mother in her later years.  Barbara also took great joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren whenever possible.

Barbara is survived by her children, Christina Smothers of Preston, Missouri, Christopher Smothers (Cindy) of Sedalia, Missouri, Constance Thompson of Camdenton, Missouri, Cara Canon (Jeff) of Sedalia, Missouri, Rodney Smothers (Larissa) of Macks Creek, Missouri, and Renee Powell (Chris) of Lake Village, Arkansas; her brothers Ward Golston of Sedalia, Missouri, Jerry Golston (Verla) of Irving, Texas and Gary Golston (JoAnn) of Lebanon, Missouri; her sisters Evelyn Golston of Bolivar, Missouri, Brenda Atkins (Doral) of Birmingham, Alabama, Beverly Bonner (Henry) of Bolivar, Missouri, Glatha Hopper of Preston, Missouri and Cynthia Sampson (Ray) of Ozark, Missouri; 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Sybil Golston and sister Dolores Gagnier.

The family will welcome friends for visitation on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home, Macks Creek, Missouri.  Services will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Macks Creek Cemetery, Macks Creek, Missouri.
