Obituary of Georgia G. Cates

Georgia G. Cates, age 93, of Osage Beach, Missouri passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Eldon Nursing and Rehabilitation in Eldon, Missouri.

Georgia was born August 6, 1928 in Sitka, Arkansas, the daughter of Robert and Julia (Hoffman) Lashley.

On January 22, 1966, Georgia was united in marriage to Earl Cates in Madison, Illinois. They shared 56 years of marriage at the time of her passing.

Georgia loved to play golf and going to the casino and playing the 25 cent slot machines. She was an excellent cook. She loved travelling but always recruited somebody else to drive because she didn’t like to drive. Georgia had a green thumb for indoor plants and also liked spending time on the lake and fishing. She loved her family dearly and her most treasured time was spent with them.

Georgia is survived by her husband Earl Cates of the home; son Jerry Cates (Oy) of Kaiser, Missouri; daughters Louwanna Boom (Terry Berry) of Osage Beach, Missouri, Rae “Pat” Stimpson of Temple, Texas, and Linda Sue Cox of Fenton, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Joi Dunn of Memphis, Tennessee and Julia Fay “Jupie” Joiner of Dolton, Georgia and brother Phillip Lashley of Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Julia Lashley; son Earl Cates; sons-in-law Thomas Stimpson and Ronnie Cox; and 8 siblings.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 25, 2022 at 4:00 pm at Hedges-Scott Funeral Home in Osage Beach, Missouri. The family will welcome friends for visitation from 3:00 – 4:00 pm prior to services at the funeral home.
