Dave, why is it when some people retire and are ready for fun.
God has a different plan for us.
You and Lisa were a great couple, you left a big hole.
You will be surely missed.
Love, Donna Hanks

My kids loved coming to Uncle Dave and Aunt Lisa's house in Cedar Rapids when they were little. They remember sitting at the table eating lunch with Uncle Dave and listening to his stories.
I'll always be grateful to the great guy who made my aunt's life full of happiness.

Dave was such an amazing family friend. Dave and my father are one in the same, loving, funny, sarcastic, and kind. Dave and dad would do many things and Lisa and mom had a bond that lasts to this day. 19 years ago almost to this date Dave took off a gold cross from around his neck and gave it to me before I left for the Armed Forces. He said he wore it when he served, and I still have it to this day. Thank you Dave for everything, especially your friendship to the Botts family.

I could speak for hours about the greatness that is my Dad(Papa). His soft spoken, stoic, and tremendous loving intelligence helped to remold a troubled child into the strong, resilient, and kind hearted woman that I am proud to be today. His dedication and devotion to my Mom showed me how true love is possible. He will forever be the voice I hear when making life choices, and will forever be in my heart.
I Love You Papa....I will miss you so much, but I know you'll always be with me.

I'll never forget and always be so grateful for Dave. He saw a potential in me and encouraged me to do something I love. He created the opportunity for me to get my degree in computer science and pushed the board to approve paying for my schooling. As a result, I became the IT Administrator for a local city government. Without Dave, it would never have been possible. He was an amazing mentor, friend and had a wicked sense of humor. I'll always be in his debt. Thank you, Dave!!

Dave certainly took an uncooperative board of alderman and lead them into cooperative shape, he let employees do their jobs as they should but, stepped in when needed.
Dave loved talking about the best parts of his life to us at work and that meant he was going to talk about himself when he was younger but, most of the time we were going to hear about his love for his wife Lisa, he had so much pride in being married to her.
It's amazing how one life can touch so many. He may not have been loved by all he came in contact with but, he certainly was respected by them.

It very hard to believe that Dave is no longer with us, or does it seem fair! Dave was one of the best things that happened to the City of Lake Ozark, not only for his super intelegent mine, but also for his kindness and willing to take time to alway hear your concerns. I loved working with Dave and love that I got to sit next to him at all the Board meetings, sometimes passing notes back and forth!
Dave will always have a special place in my heart as he has left fond memories, and when someone becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Thank you Dave for being the person you were! Love that smile!
Lisa , - you are in my prayers and my heart.

Lisa and family, we are heartbroken for your huge loss.
We have so many fond memories of Dave when you both lived in Waterloo.
Dave was always so friendly and fun to visit with when I would see him at city hall or at city events. Eric enjoyed working with him for the many years they each spent at the City of Waterloo.
Prayers for all of you,
Judy and Eric Thorson

In David’s younger years, I spent a lot of time with him and many other of our cousins. Being the oldest of those cousins in the VanDee family, I got the privilege to babysit often. I remember the time we decided to catch a raccoon and tried keeping him as a pet. Of course his parents weren’t very happy, as the little critter tore up the house while we were sleeping. I will always remember those days, with a smile and cherish the memories forever. Peace David❤️

Dave and Lisa, you were our first friends in Dyersville. You made us feel so welcome. We had many great times together. Thanks to you Dave, Marty saw that cats were pretty cool by seeing you and Houdi togther and he brought home Yogi....yes! Loved sitting on the deck just hanging out, concert going and the annual Christmas get togethers to play Santa and do a TON of wrapping.
We were so sad when you moved away because we could not see you two as much as we wanted. However you have always been in our hearts and we love you. Dave, you will be missed by us and many others. You are one of the good guys. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Lisa and your family. May you rest in Heavens peace 'til we see ya again. We find peace in knowing that you no longer suffer. Love, Carol
